Pasta Party!

I'm so excited, because today is the Fort Bend Fit Pasta Party!! The speaker will be Jeff Galloway!!! How cool is that? This event always gets me inspired beyond belief. As I get ready for my first half (but my 9th major event - 5 marathons and 3 ultra-marathons) it makes me pause and reflect on the reasons I do this. Insanity may jump to some of your lips, but actually, I run for my sanity. Imagine what I would be like without it!! I run for my health, and I run because I can. I will miss seeing my mom out there on the course, but I'll have her cross pin on my bib. Hubba Nine and Sweet Lou will be out there on their bikes to cheer me on. And FBF will be a force, as usual, cheering each other on, and running each other in!!

I have to thank Hubba Nine for gently nudging back into my running routine! His little call last week prompted two weekly runs and a Saturday long run. I'm planning on three short weekly runs this week and a half marathon on Sunday! I also want to publicly admit that when Sassy said Hubba Nine made her think I was saying he was Hubby # Nine, and I said, "Like I'd do that nine times!" I meant with nine different men. I marry Hubba Nine nine times! Are you wanting to renew our vows or something, sweetie?

Today's run

So, I just got a call from Hubba Nine asking how many miles I ran this morning! He says, "I mean it's less than two weeks til the marathon." Can you believe the nerve?! Then he says, "But you're just running the half, huh?" I really should go run, but I have been buried under laundry, the pile of death and other stuff! That's a good excuse, huh? Nope, there's no such thing!!
Well, off I go to run! The dog hair will still be piled up in the corner when I get back.

Yippee! The holidays are over!!

Well, I know it's been a while, but "The season of peace and joy" is always hectic and crazed around here! Sad news, as of now... MiniMe and Nurse-to-be are not seeing each other anymore. We still see them all, just not at the same time. I'm not convinced they will never be, just not now.
Christmas is always a bitter sweet sort of time for me - what with all the responsibilities of races and performances for my children's choirs, it's not usually a very relaxing time. I always miss my parents at this time of year, because my dad's birthday was December 30, New Year's Eve is December 31, New Year's Day is January 1 and my parent's anniversary was January 2. My dad always said it gave him an excuse to get drunk and stay drunk for four days!
Anyways... The yucky time is over, and the New Year has begun. So... did you make any resolutions? Hubba Nine made a resolution once... to never make any stinking resolutions! And, unlike me, he has stuck to it!! I'm not so much making resolutions this year, but I am making a plan for doing things better. We started off the year by eating at home, and cleaning out the garage. Okay, so the garage is only half clean, but that was a big accomplishment!
Now that there is space in the garage, Hubba Nine can put his stuff to work on his "little toy race cars" out there. He also promises to put some of the bikes out there. My bike lives in the garage, but his and Sweet Lou's don't. Now having a bike a piece in the house wouldn't be that big of a deal. But, NO!! he has three bikes, and she has five! What nine year old needs 5 bikes, I ask you?!?! She has her mountain bike, her road bike, her BMX racing bike, her collector's item BMX bike and a trick bike (that was given to her by a well-meaning friend.)
Now on to the next goal! To clean my room. I think I'll start with the Pile Of Death in the corner. When you work 6 days a week, you tend to grab and hide stuff when your mother-in-law comes for a visit. This little habbit will eventually cause the pile of death! I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Moving Day

No, not me, sillies! But all children over the age of twenty are GONE!! Move-in date was December 1, and now on December 4, I finally wake up to an empty house! Well, other than Sweet Lou, who had snuck in my bed sometime during the early morning hours, and was keeping me warm and toasty. It was really strange to open the door to MiniMe's room and see it empty. Well... empty exept the bag of garbage, the backpack and books that he doesn't need anyway (having dropped all his classes this semester when Miss Pegasus went into the hospital.) Hubba Nine is happy to get his workroom back. I must admit I will be happy to see those little toy cars leave our bedroom, but I will miss the help when I forget to change the laundry to the dryer and when I won't be home when Sweet Lou gets out of school. And who will explain where my conversations have gone when I make quantum leaps and everyone else is confused? Just so you know, if I run/walk/ride my bike down to my good friends house (.3 miles) and go through the fence into the right of way, and over the levee, I come out right at the street where "the bigs" live 3 doors down! And who am I kidding? I'm sure they'll come over to eat on a regualar basis.

Turkey Day 08

So, here's La Familia the day after Thanksgiving! We forgot to take pictures on actual Thanksgiving ,what with the race we helped put on in the morning to Miss Pegasus' sugar drop in the afternoon! It was an exasperating day, but we had fun in the 'Ville. This was our first time to have Miss Pegasus overnight, and I must admit... noone should do their first glucose test on a four year old at 2 AM!! It took three fingerpricks - poor thing. I hope she thought it was all a bad dream! And, might I add... two adults and two children in one foldout couch-bed... a little crowded! Please, don't think I slept well. Oh well, breakfast at The Texan made up for it, and I slept all the way home in the car!

My three amigos

So here are my kiddos. Why yes, there is quite large gap in their ages. But at least we had instant babysitters when the youngest was a baby!

Friday, November 21, 2008

Well, today was a busy day! After getting Sweet Lou off to school, Hubba Nine and I ran some errands, I dashed off the Red group's newsletter, and rushed off to work. Late, of course, but I opened the store on time. So I busily sold running shoes and sports nutrition, all the while entering race entries onto the computer! But while I was gone... everyone left! Sweet Lou went with her grandmother for the week, and Hubba Nine took off with a buddy to race little toy cars. So what's a girl to do? I worked two hours late, then met Beauty and her boy for dinner. We went to her friends new restaurant, but alas, the Marathon Mamma t-shirt and jeans I was wearing didn't seem appropriate for the jazz combo that was playing ; ) So off we went to Panda Garden. YUM!
I have now opted to pass on the 16 mile run I'm scheduled to do at 4AM tomorrow, and will join some other San Antonio Rock and Rollers for 6 miles at 6AM. I don't even think I'll feel guilty about bailing on my beloved red group either. I'll just tell myself I'm checking up on the red halfers!

Happy birthday to my friend Sassy (shown here with Sweet Lou and I at Halloween one year!!) I wish her all the best.
